The Best Homemade Vanilla Recipe
Special Equipment
- Glass storage bottles with airtight lid – not cork lids
- Small Funnel
- Labels – I made mine on my Cricut but Etsy is a great place to look for custom labels if you don’t have a Cricut.
- Kitchen Shears or a sharp knife
Ingredients
- Vodka – 80 Proof is fine and it doesn’t have to be top-shelf vodka. Just a moderately priced Vodka is fine
- Vanilla Beans – about 4 beans per cup of vodka
Instructions for My Homemade Vanilla Recipe
- Sterilize bottles either by boiling them, heating them in the oven, or running them thru the dishwasher
- Slice beans lengthwise to expose the flesh of the bean
- Depending on how tall your bottles are, you may need to cut the beans in half.
- place the vanilla beans in the bottle at a ratio of 4 beans per 8 ounces
- Add Vodka to bottles making sure to cover the beans
- Store in a cool dark place for at least 30 days.
- Shake the bottles every couple of days. The color will get darker and the flavor stronger with time.
