As someone who has always loved cooking, fried ravioli has been a staple in my kitchen for years. I remember the days when I would deep fry these little pockets of joy, filling the house with their irresistible aroma.
Jump to RecipeThey were a hit at family gatherings, game nights, and casual dinners. However, as much as I loved them, I knew deep frying wasn’t the healthiest option.
That’s when I decided to adapt my beloved recipe to the air fryer, and I haven’t looked back since.
I am a big air fryer girl and have several different brands and types. I have the Cuisinart air fryer at home and it is probably the best as far as heating and cooking evenly . It also has a window on the door allowing you to peek inside without opening the door.
At our beach house and mountain cabin, I have the more traditional air fryer, which I equally love! They just don’t hold as much food.
Why Choose Air Fryer Ravioli?
Switching to the air fryer has been a game-changer for several reasons:
- Health Benefits: Air frying uses significantly less oil, which means fewer calories and less fat. It’s a great way to enjoy crispy ravioli without the guilt.
- Convenience: The air fryer is incredibly easy to use and clean up, making it perfect for busy weeknights or impromptu gatherings.
- Taste and Texture: The air fryer delivers a perfectly crispy exterior while keeping the ravioli tender on the inside, much like traditional frying but without the heavy greasiness.
Ingredients Needed
To make the best air fryer ravioli, you’ll need:
- 9 Oz Ravioli: Be sure to use the ravioli in the refrigerated section. Do not use dry ravioli. I love using cheese-filled ravioli, but meat or vegetarian options work great too.
- Cooking Spray or Oil: A light spritz helps achieve that golden, crispy texture.
- 2 eggs
- 1 – 2 tsp Italian seasoning. Feel free to get creative with garlic powder or paprika.
- 1 cup Bread crumbs or panko
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
Cooking Instructions for Air Fryer Ravioli
- Whisk 2 eggs together and place in a bowl for dredging
- Combine bread crumbs, seasonings, and parmesan cheese in another bowl.
- Coat the ravioli in the egg and then dredge thru the breadcrumb mixture. Be sure to cover both sides of the ravioli.
- Place them in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding to ensure they cook evenly.
- Lightly spray the ravioli with cooking spray. I use the olive oil cooking spray but any will work. This helps the ravioli toast to a perfect golden color.
- Air fry the ravioli for about 6 minutes, flipping halfway through. Cooking times may vary depending on your air fryer model and the size of the ravioli.
- They should be golden brown and crispy on the outside.
Finishing Touches
- Sprinkle with Parmesan: For added flavor.
- Sprinkle with fresh or dried parsley: For added flavor and color.
- Serve Immediately: Enjoy them hot and crispy
Serving Suggestions
Air fryer ravioli are versatile and can be served in various ways:
- Dipping Sauces: Marinara, Alfredo, homemade pesto, or garlic aioli make excellent accompaniments.
- Side Dishes: Pair with a fresh salad, garlic bread, or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
- Presentation Tips: Garnish with fresh herbs like basil or parsley and arrange on a platter for an appealing appetizer.
Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Ravioli
- Avoid Overcrowding: Ensure the ravioli are spaced out so they cook evenly.
- Experiment with Seasonings: Customize the flavor by adding your favorite herbs and spices.
- Monitor Cooking Time: Keep an eye on the ravioli to avoid overcooking. I have two different air fryers and they both cook differently.
- Make Ahead: When making these ahead of time, I typically make them an hour or so early and just rewarm in the air fryer at 200 degrees until warm.
